The order of things
The order of Things is about the relationship between farmer Peter, his eighty cows, the consumer of their product and the system of which they are all a part. It is a three-way interdependence. There is oppression and care. Given and taken. The consumer consumes and pays. The farmer milks and feeds. The cow produces and eats. They depend on each other. But it is questionable whether it is a voluntary partnership. The farmer, the cow and the consumer. All cogs that fit together seamlessly. All part of a machine that keeps on going. day after day. The farmer and the animal, caught in a hopeless routine. They appear to be solitary companions, surrounded by empty fields and with a roaring demand for their product.
The order of Things is a poetic documentary featuring a post-apocalyptic note, a grim atmosphere and a slumbering tension. It explores the fate of livestock, the fate of the farmer and the parallels between them, asking the question: can good people do bad things?
